“Spare, O LORD, your people,
and make not your heritage a reproach,
with the nations ruling over them!
Why should they say among the peoples,
‘Where is their God?’”

There is an urgency to Repent and Believe in the Gospel today. As we see uncertainty rising all over the World , the Lord is calling us to repent and believe in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. In the Old testament whenever the chosen race of Israelite’s sinned against the Lord, they were taken as captives by the Non Believers as slaves in to Exile. When they came in  to their senses and repented for their sinfulness , God unconditionally forgave them and made their Pagan oppressors to return all their  things which they had lost in their exile.  In the new testament every believer is a chosen race of God , all Baptised people are called to live in holiness and truth . When the Baptised people sin against God or disobey the Gospel , Non Believers rise against God’s chosen race and rule over them in Violence and injustice.  When a Baptised Christian repents and believes in the Gospel the Word of God , God subdues his enemy, and Prosperity and peace  follows him.

Do God punish his people ? God does not punish his people but when a person stops following God’s instructions which keeps him safe and healthy and takes a wrong belief  by trusting his own wisdom , he or she loses the God’s protection and peace and the Enemy takes over their life. The Enemy can be every possible Evil person, place, situation, ideology. If we try to fight this enemy in human wisdom and discipline we bring more troubles to our life. The only way to come back ( REPENT) to the instructions of the Lord ( Gospel) and we will be safe and  healthy.

Lent is a season of Spiritual Warfare , when we repent and follow the Word of God we defeat the Enemy of our life. Why do the Church is calling us to Penance , Charity and Prayer. These three tools strengthen us to fight our battle against the state of life in which we live and  come back to the mainstream of God’s love.

  1. Penance : Penance disciplines our Body , mind and Spirit. We must discipline all the five senses of our Body i.e. Taste, Touch, Smell, sight, hear.  only fasting is not enough to control our five senses  but we must  avoid too much visual things(Sight),  Worldly luxuries ( smell)  Itching Ears to hear what we like-Gosip(Hear) ,  to feel god the worldly things( Touch)
  2. Charity : The senses of our mind – (senses of our souls): intuition, peace, foresight, trust, empathy . The acts of Charity like alms giving, Peace, self control, patience, Consideration, tolerance,  forgiveness, Empathy  strengthens a person to come out of evil possession of Anger, hatred,  selfishness, confusion, revenge and unforgiveness
  3. Prayer: To control senses of the Spirit- Faith, Hope, Praise, Worship and reverence we must build a relationship with God in personal prayer , Praise & worship and Community Prayer.                                                                                                                     The above three tools control our 15 senses of the Body, mind and Spirit but Repentance and Believing in the saving act of Jesus Christ brings us back to the presence of Holy spirit where we can freely interact with the Holy Trinity.           There is a great necessity to renew our Salvation Experience and be transformed in Spirit and truth.  Our Complete Salvation or one with our Lord itself is the saving activity or acts of Evangelism  towards our Non believing brothers and sisters. The Salvation is so much powerful , it is better than Heaven and earth itself. The power of Salvation  brings down the enemy forces to subdue us and live in Beatitudes of Christ.

Love surpasses all differences of this World . Any Law , movement, sacrifices , rights, Constitutions, religions , families, individuals , societies, cultures not built in love then the spirit of love ( Holy spirit)  does not live in these institutions. If any institution built without the spirit of love , built on human wisdom or  the spirit of  selfishness. These kind of institutions will not last long  and the destiny will be disastrous due to wrong ingredient or material used to build these institutions. We can not blame God for destruction because we have used a wrong choice and landed in state of confusion. when our choices are not of love oriented ,  then these very choices lead us to destruction, how  good or modern or disciplined or educated or  sacrificial they may look like .

Love was the basic plan of God. The theology of God’s existence is love because God is love. The absence of love is  Sin . Sin is an offence against God’s love( Holy spirit). When we make a choice not to love , we reach the territory  of the absence of the Holy spirit and at this juncture the Evil enters our life and destroys us. God does not destroy us but Evil destroys us   in the absence of love. This is the reason we have to make love as center of our lives decision, it may be our children , daily bread , career, nations, cultures, way of life, so on . The whole World belongs to us but we must belong to Christ , redeemed in his love and filled with the Holy spirit. The whole World is beautiful in the presence of Christs love , in the absence of love of  Christ the World is a corrupt and miserable place to live upon.

In love  we can correct our brothers and sisters , in love we can protest , in love we live like pagans and adopt their cultures , but our main motive to spread the love of Christ and we do not have any part of this Worldliness, though it may look evil as long as Christ’s spirit lives in us. Love surpasses all false worships, love surpasses all differences of this World, love breaks every bondage of evil, love  transforms the hearts of our enemies. Prayer  and rituals made without love and  compassion is a waste of time. This had happened when Jewish people were following Law in letters or in their minds but not in true spirit of love and truth. This kind of spirituality nullified the Law or God’s Word without any effect in their life.  If charity is not followed with our Prayer and Sacrifices then our prayers and sacrifices are void and nullified in it’s nature because the Spirit of love does manifest in our prayers.

Choosing to love is not a choice but a commitment , a commitment does not see the consequences  but come what may  choose to love in good time or in persecution or trials. We need this kind of Spirituality in our time. The differences or grey areas of our society is an opportunity to testify God’s love. God permits these differences as part of the Creation to fulfill the Salvation in this World. The emerging of different religions and ideologies is part God’s love to his people. The prodigal Father permitted the prodigal son to exercise his free will and these consequences of his free will led him to temptations but  the father waited for him with his open arms with a compassionate heart and prayer. This was  one activity  of God’s love where  God’s love, freewill, temptations, Evil, hatred , disaster , reconciliation and transformation was involved in one action.   This is part of God’s love towards his people which permits to choose love and hatred in free will. Love does not have choice at all but a firm commitment of loving , giving and forgiving.

I am the light of the world, says the Lord;
whoever follows me will have the light of life.

Today’s Readings focus on the main characteristics of a follower of Christ. Many may claim to be Christians in our time but what Characteristics makes a person Christian. These characteristics distinguishes a Christian from all other Religious, Ethnic, Political , Cultural groups of our time.  There seven Characteristics of a Christian

  2. Person born of Faith:  Person of Faith becomes follower of Christ not by physical birth but born in water and Spirit , the one who has transformation experience in repentance and born by faith in Jesus Christ and filled with the Holy spirit-Baptism.
  3.  Messianic Person: The Messianic Person is a person who has been anointed with the Anointed(Christ) as his head and the anointing  of the Holy spirit flows from the Head( Christ) to the Body ( the messianic person)
